The Fountainhead Published

During the 1940s, Rand became politically active. This activity also brought her into contact with other intellectuals sympathetic to free-market capitalism. Rand’s first major success as a writer came with The Fountainhead in 1943, a romantic and philosophical novel that she wrote over a period of seven years. Rand extended her involvement with free-market and anti-communist activism. She also joined the anti-Communist American Writers Association.
